The purpose of this website is to facilitate doctors in Ireland to issue a joint Statement to members of the Oireachtas, outlining our concerns at the proposed removal of the 3-day waiting period before abortion.
The Statement is co-ordinated by [GROUP], a group of doctors concerned by the proposed removal of the waiting period. Doctors in [GROUP] and others who sign the Statement take a variety of positions on the overall abortion issue and involvement in providing abortions.
The Oireachtas Health Committee is currently examining a bill which proposes to remove the legal requirement for a 3-day period for reflection, through an amendment of the abortion legislation passed in 2018.
The Statement will be submitted to members of the Oireachtas to inform them on the implications of the bill before further votes are taken.
